The UK Border Agency’s  new Student Visa computer system is now in operation; under the revised immigration structure, students are classified as Tier 4.

To get a Student Visa to come to CCYBC, you have to be able to comply with the criteria set by the UK Border Agency.

If you are planning to get a Student Visa for one semester, your Bank Account will need to be worth at least 2,000 UK pounds after you have paid the $600 (£400) deposit.

If you are planning get a Student Visa for more than 1 semester, your Bank Account will need to be worth at least 5,000 UK pounds after you have paid the $600 (£400) deposit.

To work out what your bank balance is worth in UK pounds, use the current exchange rate calculator at www.oanda.com.

# of semesters UK pounds US$ equiv. @ 1.5 US$ equiv. @ 1.7
2 or more £5000 $7500 $8500
1 £2000 $3000 $3400

Before you can apply for a student visa, we have to issue you with a Tier 4 Student Visa sponsorship certificate. We will need from you:

  • Information about yourself, which we will get from your Application forms (for new students) and your Registration Form
  • Your bed deposit of $600 (£400).

When we have received your all your forms, properly completed, and your bed deposit, we will send you your Tier 4 Student Visa sponsorship certificate, a Student Visa Letter and your Acceptance Letter.

Online Student Visa Applications

If you intend to come to CCY BC for more than 1 semester or if you wish to seek permission to have a part time job, you should complete a Student Visa application form which you can do online at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx. You need to follow the regulations for applying for a Student Visa which vary from country to country. Go to www.visainfoservices.com/Pages/Welcome.aspx; after selecting your country you will find out exactly what you have to do. It is important to follow the instructions correctly to make sure your visa application is accepted.

It is possible to satisfy the financial requirement through funds your parents have in their bank account – for details see paras. 136 &137 in Tier4migrantguidance.pdf (referred to above).

Further information

Student Visitor

American students and other non-visa nationals do not require a visa to come to the UK for one semester i.e. for less than six months> but may find it beneficial to have a student visa especially for sight-seeing trips to mainland Europe. If you come to the UK without a visa, you should inform the Immigration Officer that you are doing a 15 week course at CCY BC which has a UKBA Tier 4 license to sponsor students and ask for a 6 month Student Visitor stamp in your passport. You will not be able to extend your stay while in the UK and you will not be able to take a part-time job.
Please note: the Student Visitor stamp is single entry; if you leave the country to go on outreach or to do sightseeing, you will need to request a fresh visitor stamp in your passport when you return to the UK and there is the possibility this may be refused.
We understand from the UK Border Agency that visits to the UK by visitors who do not have full visas, including student visitors, may be limited to 6 months in a 12 month period.
Visa national students i.e. from countries where entry to the UK has to be by visa, can get a Student Visitor Visa which costs less than a full Student Visa.

Restrictions:

  • You are not permitted to take a job as a student visitor.
  • You cannot extend your stay without returning home.
  • You are not entitled to any free medical care so you must have medical insurance.
  • Student visitor stamps are single entry. If you take a trip out of the UK the stamp is immediately void and you will need to go through immigration again when you return to the UK.

So long as you comply with the Student Visitor conditions, the immigration officer should admit you as a Student visitor. Note that immigration officers do have discretion about who they admit – if there is any problem ask the immigration officer to ring Calvary Chapel York on 01904 638777.

For more information about entering the UK as a Student visitor, select Academic Info on the menu bar and then the option Student Visitor Eligibility.
