Fair Assessment Policy

Introduction

The staff at Calvary Chapel York Bible College are concerned with the fair treatment of all students. Students will be graded solely on the quality of their work and their personal growth related to the material in classes.

Moderation

To ensure impartiality and consistency in grading standards all of our marking is moderated by a second person. This person will be unconnected with teaching the class. They are responsible for ensuring that marks are fairly awarded in line with the instructions for that assignment and the mark scale. They also review the awarding of final grades at the end of each semester. In addition CCYBC will take into account the requirements of people with special educational needs.
(Please see the CCYBC Disabled and SEN student policy for further information.)

Late Submission

In order that all students are treated fairly, marks will be deducted for late submissions of work. Five percentage points will be deducted for every week, or part thereof, that an assignment is submitted late. If a student thinks they will be unable to meet a deadline they should communicate with their course tutor at the earliest opportunity.
(Students with a disability or special educational needs may be allowed extensions at the tutor’s discretion. See Disability and SEN student policy.)

Re-Submission

If a tutor feels that a student has failed an assignment due to misunderstanding then they may, at their discretion, allow a student to re-submit an assignment. The tutor will set the deadline for re-submitted work. Re-submitted work will also be subject to a ten percentage point penalty.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism will result in an official warning. At the first offence the student will have to re-submit the assignment (which will count as a resubmission), thereafter it will result in a mark of zero. Plagiarism is ‘the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one’s own original work.’

Special Circumstances

Students with a disability, special educational need, or English as an additional language, will not be discriminated against. Sensitivity will be shown to these circumstances and adjustments will be made to the methods of assessment accordingly. It is the responsibility of students to inform tutors of any relevant information.

Feedback

If a student believes they have been treated unfairly then they should voice their concern to the tutor. If they are unable to resolve the issue they may contact the quality assurance officer who will investigate the matter. Final recourse should be to the Bible College Director, but only after exhausting other channels.
In order to help us improve our courses students are encouraged to fill in the feedback sheets made available at the end of every course.
